Lohri festival is celebrated in North India with great enthusiasm. By the way, it is the most prevalent in Punjab and Haryana. But now it has been celebrated in more provinces. Lohri is celebrated one day before Makar Sankranti. On this day people bonfire and dedicate it to Popcorn, jaggery, Peanuts etc. There is a big craze of this day in the youth. Boys and girls wear their traditional outfits, dance and sing loudly.
There is also the legendary belief in Lohri festival, firstly, it is one is the longest night of the winter and after this, the sun turns Northward. Secondly is the story of Dulla Bhatti. It is said that Dulla Bhatti had protected his province from the Mughal rulers, and also liberated girls hosted by them and had arranged their marriage.
On this day newly married couples and newborn children whose first Lohri is to be celebrated at the larger scale. They put Popcorn, peanut, jaggery etc. to the fire and wishing the bright future of themselves and their family.
